Even though the weather did not cooperate for the Memorial Day Party, we will be posting a date to host a July party on the Beach. We will get the information out to you soon. I have asked Denise Giuffre and Entertainment Committee for some summer entertainment ideas such as DJ’s/Live bands.
Information recently went out regarding a Boater’s Safety Course, which is going to be held right here at the GPYC. The class will be held on June 22nd and June 24th. The starting time is 5 p.m. and you must attend both classes. I would like to thank member Colette Conroy for taking the time to set this class up for us. If successful, we will look to have classes on a more regular basis at the club. Linda Clarici and Vanessa Heinzman have sent the information out via Email and Facebook. I would like to thank some of the members that have working exceptionally hard during our reopening process. Rainer and Diane Moellering, Eric Baughman, Vanessa Heinzman, Linda Clarici, Lenny Gomez, Dave Slowisnski, Andy Chencharik, Tom McGovern, Dave Felton, Tom Herr, Russ Cline, and Kristen Aquino. On behalf of myself, the Board of Trustees, and the entire kitchen and bar staff at the GPYC, we want to say thank you and welcome back now that we are fully open again! See you at the club! Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore May is here along with the warmer weather. The club has been doing great since we reopened our doors on March 16th. This weekend for the first time in over a year, there will be bar room seating on Friday May 7th. It appears the Governor is looking to lift capacity restrictions on May 19th. The building has been fogged daily and we are doing our best to keep the building safe. Remember, COVID-19 restrictions are still in place, so please wear your masks when not seated and remember to take your temperature when entering the building and log your information on the sheet provided.
The kitchen has been very busy, and both the bar and kitchen teams are going a tremendous job. The kitchen staff is looking for a Chef for Saturday afternoon and evenings. If any GPYC member is interested or had a family member interested, please reach out to me or Trustee Lenny Gomez and let us know. On May 8th, our monthly meeting will take place on the first floor at 11:00 a.m. The club will open after the meeting. It’s been a long year, but we are heading in the right direction. On behalf of myself and the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, we appreciate your patience and support. Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore The initial opening of the club was a success. It was really nice seeing everyone at the club and members reuniting after being away for a year and four days. The Board of Trustees opened the club with one thing in mind; “Members First.” We monitored the amount of members coming and going from the building and at a special meeting with the GPYC Board of Trustees on Tuesday March 30th, the Board voted to lift restrictions on Wednesday and Thursday because we feel we will not exceed the 50% occupancy limit; this includes children are welcome on these days. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday a member can sign in three adult guests. We ask that on the weekends, no children yet until we monitor the occupancy and see where we stand. We will adjust it back after the Easter weekend if needed, however we feel we can accommodate the extra guests with the capacity limits at this time while keeping the building safe.
This weekend Chef Lenny returns to the kitchen. He will have a few small specials that will be going out in the kitchen news Email shortly. News will be posted shortly about the April 11th boat slip meeting. Andy and Rainer were awaiting the April 1st dues deadline so the seniority list could be updated before we send out the information. I want to remind the members that the next general membership meeting is April 10th at 11:00 a.m. on the first floor of the club. The club will open immediately after the meeting along with the kitchen. On a final note, Trustee Diane Chapman has resigned from the Board. Diane has been a valued member of the Board and I want to thank her for her time and dedication to our organization. John “Jay” Delesandro was nominated and voted on by the board to fill Diane’s term. Jay is an outstanding member of our club and was the next member in line after last year’s elections counts. On behalf of myself and the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, we want to thank everyone for your continued support. We are moving forward in the right direction and look forward to seeing everyone at the club! Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore Opening day is here! This upcoming Friday, March 19th the doors will open at 12 p.m. The kitchen will be open at 2 p.m. So, with the times we are in right now, there are some strict rules we must follow.
Remember, we are all in the partnership together and keeping our members, your families, and the building safe is our top priority. For the initial opening, each and every member is allowed one guest (Significant other). We ask for the initial opening, no children at this time until we are back to normal capacity and all members have had a chance to get back into the building. Trustee Vanessa Heinzman has a fogging machine for COVID and she will be fogging the club before we open and on a regular basis. She is volunteering her time and machine to the club to help us keep safe. Andy Chencharik has further installed the air purification system voted on by the membership at the last General Membership Meeting. Thank you , Vanessa and Andy. Additionally, there will be a sign in sheet next to the front door when you arrive to sign in your guest. If you are alone, please sign the book as well and write your temperature down. You will see a wall mounted temperature unit to the left of the door. Reciprocal rights having been suspended with all other organizations until we are back at 100 %. Simply put, members first during our re-opening. We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend at your club. Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore The GPYC Board met on February 6th to discuss the possibility of opening the building. As some of you know, we were planning to discuss a target date for the spring/summer to open even prior to the Governor’s amended order now allowing 35%. So, following a productive conversation, the board has set a target date of Friday March 19th.
The club initially will be open Wednesday through Sunday between the hours of 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Reciprocal rights have been temporarily suspended by the board until we are back at 100 %. The reason for this is simple, “Members first.” The club will be open for the dues paying members, their significant other, and their children (Over 18). The kitchen will have a nice “Bar menu” offering no dinner specials to start until we are back on our feet. We will comply with all of the Governor’s directives and strictly enforce the wearing of masks and social distancing. All employees will be screened daily. As we move closer, we will provide more information. On March 6th at 6:00 p.m. there will be a General Membership meeting on the first floor of the building. We will follow all COVID-19 rules and masks will be a must. I along with the board want to meet with the membership prior to opening to discuss club business and seek input from the membership as we move forward. Twenty-five (25) is our current quorum at stated in our by-laws. Capacity is (42) with the posted occupancy at 35%. So with (13) on the board, the first (29) members may attend the meeting. The bar will not be open. Please contact me directly at rheinzman@gpycnj.com if you wish to attend. Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore The Board of Trustees will be meeting February 13th. At this time we will be discussing springtime projects at the club and a target date to open. To those members that have paid their dues, “Thank you.” The mortgage, insurance, utilities, and all of our obligations are up to date. Treasurer Andy Chencharik reports total cash on hand $54,141.00.
Rainer Moellering is currently getting three bids to go out for approval by the membership for an awning for the back deck. We would like to have that ready for the March meeting at which time we can hopefully have our first membership meeting since COVID-19 began. If approved, the awning will add much needed additional space as we get closer to the warmer months ahead. I have spoken with our board attorney Mr. McGuckin regarding additional parking along Riverside Drive. With the opening of the town’s new ramp on Garfield Avenue, we lost the ramp revenue that our club normally generates. The idea is to take down the guard rail to provide for head-on parking. We will of course keep our ramp open for GPYC members and emergency personnel only. The difference now is that it will be a private ramp, so there should be no parking issues for our neighbors. At the time of this message, Tom McGovern and his bar committee are getting ready to open with some final touches such as painting the men’s room bathroom and polishing the floors are in the works. Dave Felton is getting the docks ready for spring and Rainer Moellering and Andy Chencharik are getting ready to put out information soon for the yearly boat slip meeting. So as you can see, we are getting ready to open our club up full speed. From the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, “Thank you,” for your support and patience. Placing the safety of our club members first and staying fiscally responsible have been the top priority of this board. I along with the GPYC board appreciate the overwhelming support from the membership during this difficult time. We are in the home stretch and will be open sooner now than later. On a final note, I would like to express our condolences to club member Bruce Silvani on the passing of his brother. Our thoughts are with the Silvani family. Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore With the end of 2020 finally here, we can only hope for a much better 2021. I along with the entire GPYC Board of Trustees thank you for your patience this year. With the new vaccines rolling out, we hope that we will be open by the summer with some much-needed normalcy at your club.
Andy has sent out the dues letters for 2021-2022. We must keep up on our obligations even while the club is temporarily closed. We are all in this partnership together. We are one GPYC family and we must stick together during the good times and the bad times. It will get better and we are going to open again soon. In the words of Trustee Ernie Chapman, “We will open twice as strong as before.” So please hang in there as we move forward into the new year. On behalf of myself and the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, we wish all our members and your families all the best going into 2021. Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore The dock committee has completed the installation of the bubbler system for the winter season. Thank you to Dave Felton and the dock committee and a special “Thank you” to club member Tom Cook for the use of his boat.
Santa is coming to the GPYC on Sunday December 13th. Thank you to Diane Clarici and her crew (Louise, Sandy, Barbara, & Carol) for setting up this special day for GPYC members. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Clause. (Bob and Annelise Kump) Former Commodore Tom Noonan and his wonderful family have kept club tradition going during these difficult times with the lighting of the dock tree on the end of the East dock. Drive by at night and take a look. Thank you Commodore Noonan for keeping up with a tradition you started. Finally, I wish to give a special shout out and “Thank you” to club member Jeff Pfaff for all of your help around the club. Although COVID has us on a temporary hold, we have a lot to be thankful for with our members that continue to keep your club maintained and running. In the words of Linda Clarici, “GPYC strong!” On behalf of myself and the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, I we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year! Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore On October 13th the GPYC Board of Trustees met with the purpose to discuss the re-opening of the club. The Board decided to table the discussion until November 4th so we could have numbers for the membership on the costs to re-open at 25% of the posted occupancy. We will be looking at bar and kitchen costs to include salaries. The deck ice machine has been winterized and the boats at this time should be out of the water. The bubbler system will soon be installed for the winter season. I will send out a follow up to this message after the meeting to keep everyone informed. As always, if you have any questions or want to talk about any issues, please contact me or a board member for the most up to date information. On behalf of myself and the entire board of trustees, we look forward to seeing you all soon. Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore Commodore/Board of Trustee’s Message
November 2020 The GPYC Board of Trustees met on November 4th to discuss the tabled discussion concerning the costs to open and operate the club at 25% occupancy. The Board seriously took into consideration the positives and negatives of a partial re-opening. The Board determined that it would cost about $7874.00 just to open the door with no guarantee that we would even break even. The Board had previously voted to discuss the reopening at 50% occupancy and decided last night that based on recent spikes in the COVID-19 pandemic and the initial overhead and operating costs, it would not be in the club’s best interest until the law permits 50%. Most us were members in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy when we lost the building. It was a difficult time and almost all of us supported the club even after the Board at that time made a difficult decision to raise dues so we could rebuild. The club under the leadership of then Commodore Tom Noonan opened our beautiful building and we moved forward. Now with COVID-19, the building is here, and we can’t use it. We understand and went through it with you. I have said before that our club is an investment for the good times and the unfortunate bad times. I do say with confidence that the club will reopen again better than ever. Bar Chair Tom McGovern, Kitchen Chair Lenny Gomez, and their respective committees are ready to move forward when the law permits. When we were elected this year, you put your trust in us and the board is not always making the popular decision for some, but the best decisions for everyone to ensure that our savings are kept secure and we remain fiscally responsible. It’s a very difficult time to be on any board during the pandemic. As the Commodore, I do not get a vote. I only vote to break a tie. The Board was not only unified, but unanimous in their decision to wait a bit longer. So, I didn’t get a vote, but I fully support our board and their decision. We are going to begin having trustee meetings monthly again and we will keep you all informed. Anything that would normally be brought to the membership, will be sent to each member via E-mail for your review. The are no expenditures being voted on and no payrolls going out. You will all be getting a letter in the mail so we can reach out to everyone to keep you informed. Below is some information to help you set up your membership porthole on the GPYC website if you haven’t yet done so. On a final note to our GPYC Veterans, Trustee Ernie Chapman who heads our Veteran’s Committee wished to reach out to any Veteran needing assistance during these difficult times. He can be reached at (908) 910-3889. Please hang in there and remain loyal to your club. As Trustee Linda Clarici says, “GPYC Strong!” Respectfully, Ron Heinzman, Commodore, and the Entire GPYC Board of Trustees __________________________________________________________ Welcome to gpycnj.com Official website of the Gilford Park Yacht Club Toms River, NJ The website is a way along with Facebook that the club communicates all the happenings and information on the club in a secure Members Only area. It’s hard to believe that the end of the year is approaching. We can only hope for more normalcy as the new year approaches. I would like to thank everyone that set up and broke down our end of the summer beach party. “Umberto’s” was a big hit with the members; the food was outstanding. It’s nice to see everyone using the docks and back deck. This is the best time of the year to watch the fall sunsets and there is no better place than the club. There was a ”Fake News” rumor that there was a party on the back deck. It was actually a few club members using their deck enjoying the club property. So, let me say this, enjoy the docks and deck at “Your” club. There’s no better place to watch the sunset and talk with fellow club members. Finally, watch what you hear coming from the parking lot in the morning across the street. If you want to hear what’s really happening, then just reach out to me or a fellow board member. The Board of Trustees is working with some ideas to do a partial reopening of the building. We’ve been talking about the issue and one reason this message is a few days late is because we were hoping to hear some news that the dining is loosening a bit to accommodate a few more members. As you all know, the full Board felt twenty-five (25) percent was not enough to maintain a small profit with costs, overhead, and utilities. Chef Lenny is working with me on an opening menu and Bar Chair Tom McGovern will be ready when the Board gives the word. One thing to expect is limited seating, face masks, temperature checks, social distancing, and table reservations so all the club members have a chance to use the building. I hope to have a message out in the next few weeks with some news. Andy sent the treasurer numbers for the month to share: TD................. Operating Account........ $ 44,365.07 TD................. SBA Account..................... $ 36,806.70 Ocean First... Rebuild Account.......... $ 23,286.11 Ocean First... The dock committee will be putting the bubbler system in and they wish to avoid any fall storms. On behalf of myself and the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, we want to let you know that we are working to have the club open real soon. We miss seeing everyone and we appreciate your patience and support. Ron Heinzman, GPYC Commodore |
