Commodores message, march 2018

What is a Club?  No, it’s not a sandwich.  No, It’s not a medieval weapon.  
Your club consists of a building like what we have at 700 Riverside Drive.  Inside, you will find a bar, a pool table, dart boards, meeting room and a kitchen. Yes, I know I am stating the obvious, I haven’t gotten to my point yet.
Now we add the most important element to the above, our members, and like what people always do, they organize themselves. So now we become like a small town. The small town has boundaries, we have boundaries, they have a town council, we have a Board of Trustees, they pay taxes, we pay dues, they have laws we have bylaws and house rules. Small towns have common and shared areas such as parks, roads, etc...  

Our whole club is a common and shared area. This is my point. The whole club has to be shared among 400 members and their guests, a total of 3,000 square feet.  None of the above in blue is guaranteed to you.  Due to the activities of the day you may not get a seat at the bar or a drink right away or a seat anywhere, standing room only or not be able to shoot pool or play darts due to the crowds.  You may not be able to play the juke box because we have a band, DJ or the sound is on the TV for an important game. All the TV’S may be all on one channel for one special game or a special event not what you want to watch. You may not be able to shoot pool because the pool table has been moved out of the way or it is being used as a buffet table.  The club may be closed part of a day due to a special event.  
The kitchen always puts out a variety of food to encompass all tastes. The kitchen may be closed due to the events of the day or may have a special meal to match the events of the day or you may not like what they are serving at all.

So, I guess the question you are asking yourself now is, what are my dues for?
 
With your membership you get to be part of something bigger than yourself!  A place to go where you can share a common goal, if I may steal a quote from a popular sitcom, a place to go where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad, you came and inexpensive drinks. The beach, the ramp, the sun deck, the docks for your boat, docks where you can crab and fish, and last but not least the VIEW.  This is social part of your club.  

The financial end, your 82 cents per day goes to maintain the above, pay the Mortgage, gas and electric bills, water bills, Insurance and loans. Different services contracts such as janitorial, elevator, fire systems and professional services. Maintenance items on the docks and building and so on and so on.  

So again, you may ask what is your point.

My point is you get so, so, so much, for so, so, so little, so be helpful, yield to the activities of the day without an opinion, criticism, comments or judgment. Participate in the different activities, join the different leagues. Embracing new ideas will add to the success of your club.

Be RIGHTEOUS To One Another! and Party on Dudes and Dudettes.

Open Mic Night was a total success with standing room only. The brain child of this is trustee, John Hogan. Thank you, Bill Chapman, for bringing your talent to the Club for all to enjoy and for the organization of all musician who performed.

The square-dancing night conducted by fellow member, Dave Solt, was a huge success thank you Dave. Thank you, Sharon, Mary Ann and Dennis for helping make it a perfect night. All the dancers had lots of fun learning how to square dance.

The kitchen introduced Lenny our new chef for Valentine’s Day again a total success.  We are looking forward to a lot of special meals coming from Lenny.  Thanks to Ron and Manny for the kitchens ongoing success.

The meatball contest was a huge success we had a packed house and we now have a head honcho Dennis the king of the meatball contest.  Thank you, Mary Ann, Dennis, Pat and Shawna for a job well done. This event added to the success of our club.

Our ongoing seminars are very informative and provide a lot of good information. The brain child of this is John Hogan.  Thank you, Ed Schuler and Jerry Wade, for your expertise and sharing of your knowledge with the members of GPYC..
