Dear Fellow Members
We are now going into the 2nd year of our new club. The summer was great and we are all hoping that the warm weather and boating season stays around for a bit longer. The club is now in the winter season mode; please check the GPYC website for the new hours. We have had some growing pains and we are working through them. Projects that are in the works are the bar foot rail and sound proofing. Kitchen back splash is complete. All committees have been established and they are working toward their goals to make the club a better place. If you would like to be a member of any committee please see me. The grounds are looking great. Thanks to the grounds committee and the D.O.C. The PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE member plaque board is up on the wall just as you come out of the elevator on the 2nd floor. Check It out, it is a must see. I am taking this opportunity to thank Linda Clarici for this original idea and all the work associated with collecting the names and getting them printed. Also a special thanks to Larry Clarici for creating the beautiful boat transom center piece with the very inspiring message "PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE" and for those members who built the board and hung it: John Hogan, Don Krebs, Bob Schaffener and Tom Herr, thank you. It’s not too late to add your message on the board. Check the board for ideas, (examples: name and years held office, years of membership, in memory of). To purchase a plaque go to the club store on the website gpycnj.com We have upcoming events, the kids Halloween party Oct. 21st and Christmas party Dec.16th. We have planned an adult Christmas party Dec. 8th and New Year’s eve details to follow on our website. Dart league teams have been picked competition starts Oct.4th. The Pool league, games also start on Oct. 4th. And last but not least the only communications GPYC has with the membership is the club meetings and the grapevine but more important TO BE A MEMBER IN THE KNOW YOU MUST GO TO THE WEBSITE. It changes daily so visit it regularly. Thank You; Your Commodore, Ed Horton If you can remember the quote from my first
Commodores’ message “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” I was expecting this quote to encompass the whole year, I can’t believe it was all achieved in one single event. The Labor Day Beach Party Coming together is a beginning This is for those members and helpers who were involved in the pre-planning. This includes but not limited to forming the committees, purchasing the food, the bar staff making sure your favorite drink was ready for you, all the kitchen workers, grill cooks, corn cookers, clam and corn shuckers, shrimp servers and those who helped organized the whole day. Keeping together is progress This section is dedicated to those members who prepared the grounds and the beach prior to the event and to those who set up the tables, tents, cooking equipment and then moving the whole party from the beach into the club. I did have to squash the idea to bring the sand into the building sorry. Last but not least to those who cleaned up the next day. Working together is success Despite of the weather this part of the quote demonstrated that any obstacle or weather like Super Storm Sandy or a cold windy rainy day could not get the best of the members of Gilford Park Yacht Club. We are not a club without the participation of all its members and helpers. It was a successful indoor picnic in spite of the weather. If I listed all the devoted workers by name it would take pages. GPYC thanks you all. Your Commodore Ed Horton |
