Commodores Message April 2018

My Dear follow members:
 
April 1st is a day that has several meanings, first it’s a day where children, parents and adults play tricks on each other.  The other is what I am calling the three D’s, a day associated with the Gilford Park Yacht Club its “DUES DUE DAY”.  If you paid your dues THANK YOU.  If you haven’t, I have to ask why?  As I explained in past messages you get so much for so little and how important your dues are to the operation of the club.  Without your dues the club ends up with a short fall and ends up robbing from Peter to pay Paul and eventually a bill goes unpaid. This adds additional stress to those members who are trying to make ends meet.  Also, if you don’t already know, all your privileges and amenities the club offers are suspended until you pay your dues.  With the new proposed bylaw change you will only have 90 days to pay (not a year) or you lose your membership.

We are a very diverse group of members and I can’t express enough! how important you! the members are! all of you! not just some! but all of you are to your club. All our members are like teeth in a giant gear as a new member joins they becomes a new tooth in that gear, also if we lose a member or one that does not participate that tooth becomes broken or missing and the gear stops working (turning). I have been in the club when there is no one there its just a plain building with a view. It doesn’t become a club until it is filled with members, it doesn’t become a great view until our members eyes view it and realize it is a view to behold.
We are a very private and exclusive club. Due to our boundaries we are very limited and since have limited ourselves even further by capping the membership.  With that said, this places a greater burden on the members we already have and places more importance on you the member like I said above. Your participation on what goes on at the club in attending the meetings, participating in activities, by just coming down and socialize, have lunch, and dinner on the nights the kitchen is open and most important attend the different events the club sponsors.

I know and understand that our members have other places to go and other things to do throughout the year and that’s ok. They have duel membership with different clubs or other organizations in the area and that’s OK. I know that these organizations offer amenities and philosophies the Gilford Park Yacht Club can’t offer, and that’s great and that’s ok. Some of These organizations do not have boundaries and may include everyone from a township, county, or their bylaws include people that can be linked to them by name of group only. These groups out number our membership as much as 10 to one. As I explained above we are limited to boundaries.

It is a must and important to support all the groups you belong to. There are only so many calendar events throughout the year that are celebrated by all the different clubs and organizations.  If you only go to one you hurt the other and vise a versa. Try to support The Gilford Park Yacht Club as much as you can. Don’t become that missing tooth in that gear.

I would like to thank all who supported us on our St. Patty’s day March 10 the day of the parade.  Those who couldn’t make it we missed you. I am thanking all who organized and worked the event.  Special thanks to ED Gillan who organized the event and picked up the corn beef along with John Hogan and worked as a waiter.  Thanks to Dennis Palmatier, Mary Ann Senatore, Pat Mullen, Sue Racaniello, Linda Wilbert and Manny Muina who worked the kitchen they made 103 corn beef sandwiches and 28 dinners.
