commodore's message

             The Board of Trustees will be meeting February 13th.  At this time we will be discussing springtime projects at the club and a target date to open.  To those members that have paid their dues, “Thank you.”  The mortgage, insurance, utilities, and all of our obligations are up to date.  Treasurer Andy Chencharik reports total cash on hand $54,141.00.  
 
Rainer Moellering is currently getting three bids to go out for approval by the membership for an awning for the back deck.  We would like to have that ready for the March meeting at which time we can hopefully have our first membership meeting since COVID-19 began.  If approved, the awning will add much needed additional space as we get closer to the warmer months ahead.  
 
I have spoken with our board attorney Mr. McGuckin regarding additional parking along Riverside Drive.  With the opening of the town’s new ramp on Garfield Avenue, we lost the ramp revenue that our club normally generates.  The idea is to take down the guard rail to provide for head-on parking.  We will of course keep our ramp open for GPYC members and emergency personnel only.  The difference now is that it will be a private ramp, so there should be no parking issues for our neighbors.  
 
At the time of this message, Tom McGovern and his bar committee are getting ready to open with some final touches such as painting the men’s room bathroom and polishing the floors are in the works.  Dave Felton is getting the docks ready for spring and Rainer Moellering and Andy Chencharik are getting ready to put out information soon for the yearly boat slip meeting.  So as you can see, we are getting ready to open our club up full speed. 
 
From the entire GPYC Board of Trustees, “Thank you,” for your support and patience.  Placing the safety of our club members first and staying fiscally responsible have been the top priority of this board.  I along with the GPYC board appreciate the overwhelming support from the membership during this difficult time.  We are in the home stretch and will be open sooner now than later.  
 
On a final note, I would like to express our condolences to club member Bruce Silvani on the passing of his brother.   Our thoughts are with the Silvani family.
