Dear Fellow Members,
I am still filled with pride, the same pride that I felt on November 12th the day the Gilford Park Yacht Club Celebrated its first annual Veterans day. Our newly created veterans committee chaired by Ed Gillan put together a free breakfast for the veterans and gave each veteran a flag lapel pin. Glen Blue the spokesperson for the committee created a moving ceremony that filled everyone in the room with pride. We had a special guest Ron Brooks who sang the Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America. Josh Ferris led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. This committee will work with different veteran groups to plan different events during the course of the year at our club. They maybe fishing, crabbing or just hanging out enjoying the view. Check the web site for upcoming events. These events will mean more to the vets if others also participate. This is part of our new mission statement. Along with the various donations GPYC gives during the year, every year is to become more involved in events that effect Veterans and First Responders. It is the board of trustee’s mission to restore some of what was lost from super storm Sandy. Obviously we can’t bring the old building back but can reinstate some of the memories and plaques that were saved before the club was demolished. That being said, we will be rededicating our meeting room, it will be called The Bayview Room as it was called in the past. Also, we will be rehanging the plaque of the person it was dedicated to back in the day. Starting the first of the new year in order to create a more family oriented environment, our club will start a zero tolerance for cursing. Of course, for some unknown reason these words do slip out, if this does happen you will be required to donate a dollar to the Veterans committee to be used for the veterans. You will be on the honor system or maybe your neighbor at the bar or at the next table will hear the curse bombs and require you to donate. Upcoming events: December 8th Adult Christmas party, ugly Christmas sweater contest, secret Santa Christmas ornament exchange. Children’s Christmas party December 16th sign up your children at the club. Bartenders have signup sheet. New Year’s Eve tickets $75. PP. Purchase tickets at the club. On sale now! If I don’t see you at our club have a Merry Christmas. For the upcoming New Year let’s keep the momentum going, we have 365 days of blank pages to come, let’s fill them with new ideas, new friendships and new stories to tell. Board of Trustees wishes all a safe and Happy New Year. Your Commodore, Ed Horton Comments are closed.
